November was a wonderful month. We were able to celebrate Latvia’s Independence Day (Latvijas Republikas proklamēšanas diena), celebrate Thanksgiving with our church and with some American friends, and do some more exploring in Ādaži and Rīga. Here are some pictures from our month:
In big news, Caroline would like everyone to know that she lost her first tooth. She even pulled it herself!
One of our Latvian friends took us to the local library and helped us get library cards. Anna Kate was excited to find a Roald Dahl book.
We made our way over to the Kalnciema Quarter for their farmer’s market. It was rainy and cold, but we had fun!
We then made our way to the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation.
The girls enjoying a view into the museum’s courtyard.
Eating in Old Riga can be expensive, but Patty found this traditional Latvian pancake place.
Eleanor is definitely our late-riser. She needs a little bit of time before she is ready to face the day.

Sunday school at our church here in Ādaži.
Our church had a Thanksgiving meal. Though it is not a Latvian holiday, they decided to celebrate it this year as a special time of giving thanks to God.
Several of the women from our church decorated for the big event.
The table is set and ready for Thanksgiving Dinner!
Our dinner was held at a woodworking lodge nearby. They had some beautiful carpentry items.
Caroline was very focused on her art project at the children’s table.
Everyone is ready to eat!
We kept our annual tradition of our Thankful Tree where we write things that we are thankful for and place them on the tree.
We had our first snow, though it was considered only a dusting by our Latvian friends.
Eleanor kept trying to catch the snow flakes with her tongue.
Anna Kate stopped for a picture on her walk home from school.
The girls wanted to build a snowman, so as soon as Anna Kate got home from school, we built a snowman!
The sun is rising later and setting earlier. Here is a picture of our walk home at 4:30PM.
