We were able to ring in the New Years host a party with several families from our apartment complex (most of them are also part of our church).

One of the things we have learned about Latvia is that they love to cook excellent food! We had quite the spread of food and I ate way more than I should have. All of the children managed to stay up until midnight, too! As the clock inched closer to midnight, our friends kept asking for the time. At around 5 minutes till midnight, they started to make their way outside. We joined them to find ourselves with most of the people from our complex as we looked out across the river and waited. For what? Fireworks!

It was very difficult to get a good picture, but we were surrounded by semi-professional fireworks. There were fireworks going off all around us, the river, and Ādaži! It was a little more exciting when the firework mortar tube in front of our apartment fell over and started shooting these large fireworks into the cars, apartment building, and crowd. Needless to say, everyone is OK but the girls want to watch the fireworks from a distance next year. The morning after was a little hard for the girls. One of them wanted to get up but wasn’t quite ready to face the New Year:
