This year we celebrated our second Advent and Christmas season here in Latvia. Again, it was difficult to be away from family (maybe a little more difficult this year than last year), but we also found many ways to celebrate this season together and to keep our eyes focused on the true joy of the advent and birth of Christ. Some of the highlights of our Christmas season included:

Our family Advent Calendar and nightly devotions

Extra time to read aloud together in the long, dark afternoons and evenings

Going to see the lights and the Christmas market in Riga

Lots of sledding and playing in the snow

Gingerbread house baking and decorating

Our family and church Christmas outreaches (see previous blogpost)

Ice skating on Christmas Day

The Nutcracker performance at the National Opera House (our big Christmas gift to the girls)

We are so thankful for some extra time together as a family as we celebrated the gift of God’s Son (and looked forward to the birth of our own little one coming soon!).
