Happy 2-month birthday, Christopher! What a fun month it has been watching you change from a little newborn into a baby who is beginning to interact with the world. Sometimes when we look at you, we still can’t believe God gave us a little boy after 9 years of just girls in the house, but we are so glad He did. You are the perfect addition to our family in this season of life, and we are so thankful that our God gifts such good gifts.

  • I think my favorite development of yours this month is how much you are interacting with your family. You now recognize our faces and give us the sweetest and most genuinely excited smiles every time we look at you. Your whole face lights up, and you just melt our hearts.
  • You’ve also started to “talk” more this month. When you get really excited, you make what we call your “dinosaur sound.” You open up your mouth as wide as you can and give the sweetest little “Rahr” sound!
  • You are just starting to become ticklish, which is a moment your sisters have been anxiously awaiting. You have given us some glimpses of your giggle, and it’s going to be precious.
  • You really love your baths. You’re not quite sure about the getting undressed part, but the moment you feel the warm water on your skin, your whole body relaxes and your face just lights up.
  • You had your two month doctor visit and you passed with flying colors. You’re holding your head up and doing the “superman” move when you’re on your tummy. You now weigh 6.2kg (almost 14 lbs!), and you are 61.5cm long. Some of your 4-6month clothes are even getting a little tight!
  • The doctor did suggest that because of some redness and dryness on your skin, you may have a bit of a dairy sensitivity. We’re not going to call it an allergy, but Mommy is going to stay away from dairy products for a while and we will see if that helps. Hopefully it’s just your little baby immune system and you’ll grow right out of it, but if not, we’ve survived before!
  • You really sleep quite well. You are still sleeping in your Moses basket right next to Mommy and Daddy. You usually take one last catnap out in the living room between 8-10pm and then I feed you again and put you in your basket. You usually wake up once around 2 and again around 5, and then for good around 7:30 or 8. However, there have been a couple nights recently where you’ve only woken up once!
  • You really love going on long walks in your pram. You are absolutely precious all bundled up in your snowsuit, hat, and stroller sleeping bag. You usually fall right to sleep as soon as the wheels start moving!
  • We had a good bit of sickness in the house this month with two of your older sisters having pneumonia, or something like it. But God is good, and he answered our prayers to keep you healthy, for which we are extremely grateful.
  • The hardest part of having sickness in the house was that we didn’t allow your sisters to hold or snuggle or kiss you while they were sick. This was extremely difficult for them and they are so glad they are healthy and can dote on you again. They love being the first ones to go get you and unswaddle you in the morning, or come play with you when you’re being giggly, or get you dressed and ready to go somewhere. They’ve also started to read you stories, and your favorites so far are “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” and “I Love Trucks!”
  • You had your second faraway visitor come to meet you this month – our dear friend Caitlin. She loved getting to hold and snuggle you, and Mommy loved having a boy-mom expert around to learn from!
  • You already have quite a few nicknames around here – both English and Latvian. So far, the most often used are Puika boy, Kristoferiņš, Kristofiņš, and Princetopher. You really don’t care what we call you as long as we look at you and talk to you and smile at you!
  • You still do pretty well on car rides, but you do NOT like the car to stop. I think you may be a boy of strong convictions.
  • You haven’t needed a pacifier at all yet, and I am hoping that you won’t. I would much rather not have to deal with keeping up with one and, eventually, taking it away. You do occasionally suck on a finger or a knuckle, but mostly you’re just a pretty contented baby.
  • This month you became an official US citizen and now have a Latvian Birth certificate, an American Consular’s Report of Birth Abroad, and a US passport. One day you may have the opportunity to become a dual citizen, but the laws are a little complicated, so we will see. I have to say, though, your little baby passport pictures are pretty cute!

Christopher, you are such a precious little baby and we love you so much. We truly are all smitten with you and think you’re just the greatest. Happy two-month birthday, little one.

Love, Mommy and Daddy
