This summer we helped to lead our second vacation Bible school here in Ādaži (our church’s third), and it was a big success! It was so neat to see our relatively small church come together to put on a VBS of this quality. Our volunteer team was made up of our church members, a few college students from Riga, five adults from Oklahoma, and several teenage helpers (who have participated in VBS in previous years).

The theme this year was Kingdom Rock – God is our Strong Fortress. With the help of some very creative minds and some very skilled hands, we transformed a preschool gym into a pretty impressive medieval castle. We had 60 children participate (we had to cap registration at 60 due to space constraints and volunteer limitations). Luke was responsible for leading the outdoor sports and games rotation. I helped with translation for the American team in their rotation, as well as leading the Bible Study rotation on one of the days.

Our girls were able to both help and participate throughout the week. In addition to inviting several friends from school and our neighborhood, they did a great job helping with decorations, as well as set-up and clean-up each day. Anna Kate even did some translating for the team from Oklahoma when her group came through their rotation. As expected, we had some very tired little girls each evening, but it was such a blessing to be able to minister together with them in sharing the gospel in this community.
